This information explains who provides our financial advice, the scope of the advice we offer, how we may be paid, and how we manage conflicts of interest.

​​Nature & Scope of Advice


Life & Health Insurance

Our insurance advisers provide financial advice about products from certain providers. For Life Insurance we work with Fidelity, AIA, Resolution Life (formerly AMP), Asteron, Partners Life & Chubb (formerly Cigna). For Health Insurance we work with Southern Cross, NIB, Partners Life, Accuro, AIA & UniMed.


Fire & General Insurance

We provide General Insurance advice on a wide range of products and providers through our brokerage partner Insurance Advisernet (IANZ). To learn more about who we work with, please click here. Insurance Advisernet’s buying power spans major insurers in New Zealand, plus access to leading overseas insurers. 


We have a relationships with Elantis, Hunter, iQumulate and Financial Synergy to provide premium funding options to our clients who wish to pay their fire & general insurance in instalments. 

​​Fees and commissions

When you take out, alter or cancel general or life & health insurance cover following our advice, HTL Insurance Ltd may charge you an Adviser Service Fee plus GST and charges.


HTL Insurance Limited may receive commission from life & health insurance providers between 2.5% and 240%. This is based on your annual premium.


IANZ may also charge an administration fee for processing General Insurance premiums. HTL Insurance Ltd may also receive a commission from the Insurance Company of between 5% and 25% of the premium for General Insurance products. These fees and commissions will be clearly noted on your premium summary and invoice.

 

If we refer you to a premium funder with whom you enter into a premium funding arrangement, HTL Insurance Ltd may receive a commission of between 0% and 3% of the amount you borrow.

​​Conflicts of interest and incentives

Our advisers are remunerated by salary and a discretionary bonus, both of which are paid by HTL Insurance Ltd.

We do have in place some referral relationships. You will always be advised as to whether this is material to our relationship with you.


Incentives

From time to time our product providers assist with funding for conferences or professional development opportunities.


How we manage conflicts of interest

We ensure all our advisers prioritise client interests by:

  • Ensuring they follow an advice process placing a client’s interests above their own
  • Adviser recommendations are made on the basis of the client’s goals and circumstances.
  • Advisers undergo annual training as to how to manage conflicts of interest.

​​Our duties to you

HTL Insurance Limited, and anyone who gives financial advice on our behalf, have duties under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 relating to the way that we give advice. We are required to:

  • Give priority to your interests by taking all reasonable steps to make sure our advice isn’t materially influenced by our own interests
  • Exercise care, diligence, and skill in providing you with advice
  • Meet standards of competence, knowledge and skill set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services (these are designed to make sure that we have the expertise needed to provide you with advice)
  • Meet standards of ethical behaviour, conduct and client care set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services (these are designed to make sure we treat you as we should, and give you suitable advice). This is only a summary of the duties that we have.
